The Anatomy of the SmartWheels Brake

The SmartWheels® Velocity Control & Brake System for Inline Skates consists of the parts below. Our Braking system is compatible with most metal frame skates. Call us at our Toll Free # to find out about your skates: 877-736-9071 or buy a pair of the latest models in our Online Store! The parts are assembled as follows:

The Sleeve

The Sleeve: This part is inserted into the wheel hub. Presently, we must do the installation and therefore sell "SmartWheels Ready" Wheels (SMR)

SmartWheels Ready Wheel (SMR)

The SmartWheels Ready Wheel (SMR): This wheel comes in 80 & 82mm and durometers of 82& 84A with a tapered speed style profile. The sleeve provides the housing for the brake module pictured below.

The SmartWheels Brake Module

The SmartWheels Brake Module: The patented (US Patent # 6,102,168) SmartWheels Brake Module consists of tiny brake pads assembled on a proprietary bearing shaft, which when activated act like a brake on your car; you control your speed and stopping ability. The module is inserted into the sleeve which has already been installed in the wheel.

The Patented SmartWheels Velocity Control & Brake System

The Patented SmartWheels Velocity Control & Brake System: The brake module installed into the SmartWheels-ready wheel is then can be assembled into the skate. The bearings are placed on either side of the wheel, as normal. The wheel with SmartWheels components and bearings are then inserted into the skate frame and bolted in as normally done when changing bearings.
